John Benberg

Executive Director

John has both a double major undergrad and an advanced degree. His career before Brigade spans 10 years in higher education at the University of Illinois @ Urbana-Champaign in the Campus Risk Manager role, then approximately 20 years as Executive Director of three different Boys & Girls Club organizations. As Executive Director at Brigade, he is responsible for all operations.

A little more about John…

John is a passionate ‘girl dad’ of two teenage daughters, Cassie and Delaney; they live about 30 minutes NW of Green Bay on 5 acres with many outdoor amenities. The family also includes dogs Grizzly (the big one) and Kodiak (the little one), who watch over everything and ‘approve’ all visitors. When time permits, the human residents enjoy card games, Netflix binges, listening to old-school music, tending the property, and watching Razorback games.

A little more about Llahoma…

A recent transplant from the South, she enjoys road trips, sushi, and kayaking – not necessarily exclusive of one another. She made the move to Wisconsin with her bubbly tween daughter, an energetic Boxer puppy and an elusive tabby cat, aptly named Shadow.

Administrative Staff

Tammy Coenen

Office Manager

Tammy is the office rock star. She has a background in administrative management after spending several years with construction companies and other corporations like Kimberly Clark before starting with Brigade in winter of 2013. Tammy’s role within Brigade ranges far and wide; a great man (Tom Hoare) has told her multiple times that she is “the jack of all trades, master of none,” and he’s right! She handles all Brigade and Camp Onaway registrations, coordinates building rentals, conducts all background checks, delivers excellent customer service in the office and on the phone, facilitates the annual wreath sale, and much more. Plus, Tammy handles it all with a fun and energetic spirit.

A little more about Tammy…

My husband and I live in Hortonville with our two children, Lauren & Jarret. My daughter is in college and working on getting her Bachelor’s Degree in Education, and my son is at the Technical College getting his degree in Electrical Power Distribution. My family and I enjoy spending time outdoors hunting, fishing, golfing, and boating; however, you will not see me spending a lot of time outdoors during the winter! I love the beach, and I wish I could move to Hawaii. I also enjoy reading, hiking, going to concerts with my friends, walking, watching the Brewers and Packers, and gardening (even though I can only grow weeds). I am happy to be part of such a great organization. It would be even better if I got to run the camp store all summer!

Marnie Spielbauer

Program Director

Marnie leads the 8th grade Building Leaders programs on Tuesday evenings. In the summer, she manages Girls’ Camp 2 & Girls’ Camp 4 and considers a week of girls camp one of the top highlights of life. Family Camp is also on her summer agenda alongside her husband and young son, who also know the Onaway Magic. Marnie’s post-college plan was to use her Occupational Therapy degree to work in the specialties of either burns or hands. In 2001, a chance run-in with an Onaway leader from her childhood landed her back at Brigade. Proof that summer camp can change the entire course of your life and introduce you to the very best lifelong friends. Aside from Girls’ Camp, Marnie loves dogs, the beach, reading, and Mexican restaurants.
